Nine lb. Hammer was fashioned out of a passion for tradition and a love for song. Founding members Eddye Grogan, Brian Richards, Liam Spain, and James Stevenson first played together on a cold November afternoon—instantly bonding through music, they begin a relationship that would grow stronger with every note. Nine lb. Hammer has played local venues, events, and benefits throughout the New England area.

Described as "Bluegrass Inspired Traditional Folk Music". Nine lb. Hammer's style is a combination of bluegrass, traditional folk music, and early country and western styles. Nine lb. Hammer's goal is to carry on the legacy of the artists who inspired them (Bill Monroe, Norman Blake, Doc Watson, Hank Williams, Flatt and Scruggs.), and to create an original sound that honors that tradition.

So armed with the flat picking skills of Liam Spain, the ringing of Brian Richards' banjo, the bass styling of John Doherty, the high tone of Eddye Grogan's tenor, and the high, lonesome sound of James Stevenson's mandolin, Nine lb. Hammer is poised to become an integral part of New England's folk scene.
